Chris Allen is an espionage thriller writer whose paratrooping, humanitarian aid and law enforcement experiences have given him more action yarns to expand upon than you can poke a Kalashnikov at.
Born in Perth, the middle child of five with a bus-driving Welsh father and a choir-singing mother, Chris decided that if he was going to write the convincing action stories he dreamed of, he’d have to experience it first-hand, and joined the Australian Army at 18.
Spending years honing his jungle warfare skills, Chris then got lucky with an attachment to the British Parachute Regiment, enjoying service in Africa and the Americas as well as drinking champagne alongside Prince Charles after jumping into Arnhem in The Netherlands for the 50th anniversary of Operation Market Garden.
After one too many rough landings, Chris took on aid work at the height of the East Timor emergency, staked out drug dealers with the Australian Federal Police, and gave terrorists the bird post-9/11 by overhauling major landmarks like the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Airport, culminating in his appointment as Sheriff of New South Wales (sans six-shooter, horse and chaps).
His first book, Defender, introduces INTREPID: the ultra-secret Intelligence, Recovery, Protection and Infiltration Division of INTERPOL, starring their indefatigable new recruit, Alex Morgan. A mix of Don Draper meets Bear Grills, Morgan and the INTREPID agents are smart and suave, rough and ready, fast-thinking and instinctive – sharing a unique camaraderie that can find a flicker of light in some of the world’s darkest places.
After self-publishing Defender in 2011, building a loyal following and solid sales through social media, Chris was snapped up by Momentum, also drawing the attention of a well-known Hollywood producer with an eye to a future INTREPID blockbuster film franchise.
The exciting double-barreled release of INTREPID Books 1 and 2 by Momentum will happen in late 2012.
